Edrill.net is the official site for the eDrill project. The eDrill project is a
multifaceted open source software development effort that includes the
following:
-
Interpretation of American Civil War drill manual into a machine readable
meta-language.
-
Definition of a meta-language capable of describing most movements presented in
the American Civil War drill manuals.
-
Creation and support of a web browser based animation engine that can take as
input some form of metadata and present animated soldier movements to help aid
in the understanding of American Civil War drill.
-
Creation and support of a metadata translator to translate easily read
meta-language syntax into input for the animation engine.
-
Creation and support for a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to help aid
interpreters encode the meta-language
There has been a lot of work completed on the project already. Much of the
animation engine has been completed and most of meta-language has been defined.
There is currently a translator that will translate the meta-language into
JavaScript for control of the animation engine. A few sections of Casey’s School
of the Company have been interpreted. There is, however, much more to
be done.
