eDrill.net is the latest attempt at making Civil War era drill manuals (Tactics
manuals) understandable to 21st Century living historians. Following
in the steps Heitman’s Simplified Hardee’s & Skirmish Drill and
Grehl’s Casey's for Reenactors, eDrill will attempt to interpret the
manuals and show animations of the movements described.
The current phase of the project is to codify, or interpret, various sections of
U.S. Infantry Tactics, 1861 (Casey’s) and the United States Army Regulations,
1861. The sections of these manuals of interest are those that can be animated
using the diagramming techniques from the manuals themselves.
Included with each animation is the text from the manual, a synopsis of the
commands given and the interpreter notes.
